A Night at the Dogs at the Leiper Gallery

Paul’s Night at the Dogs show was sponsored by Westpoint Homes, one of Scotland’s leading house building companies, whose directors were early to spot Paul’s talents. Inspired by a friend’s stag do, involving a winter night at the Shawfield Greyhound Stadium, the non-drinking Paul amused himself by taking hundreds of photographs of a section of Glasgow life at play at the last dog racing track in Scotland. The resulting show ran at the Leiper Gallery in Glasgow in late 2016 and excited considerable interest, including some critical comment from people who assumed wrongly that it glorified the event, whereas what Paul had produced was truly a documentary about part of our contemporary social history. In fact the opening of the show was attended by several rescue greyhounds and their owners.

The show was featured on STV and even excited interest from Gary Tank Commander!

The subject matter was often rather dark, with Paul enjoying his passion for figurative work depicting the moments of anticipation,

as well of the sadness of what might have been, with discarded betting slips and a quiet reflective glass.
